  • UK’s Brexit department has lost its third minister in fourth months, with Joyce Anelay’s resignation, for health reasons

  • Professor Richard Thaler wins Nobel prize in Economic Sciences for “contributions to behavioural economics”

  • Catalonia’s parliament has approved a formal declaration of independence

  • Bank of England indicate increasing concern over inflation as UK inflation reaches 5-year high at 3%

  • America’s economy expanded at a faster than expected annual rate of 3% in Q3 on the back of increased investment and consumer spending

  • Britain’s economy also showed more robust growth figures, with the economy growing 0.4% in Q3. This has given Bank of England officials further reason to raise its base rate when the MPC meets on the 2nd of November
